Creating Empowered Lives

Home and School Partnership Agreement

Families, pupils and school staff all need to work together to provide a good education in a happy and safe environment.

Families can expect that the school will:

  • Keep your child safe.
  • Encourage pupils to do their best at all times.
  • Encourage pupils to show respect for each other and their surroundings.
  • Ensure staff demonstrate respect and afford dignity to pupils.
  • Provide a balanced, person-centred curriculum.
  • Inform families of their child’s progress.
  • Inform families about what the teachers aim to teach each term.
  • If your child has an accident or is injured at school, we will tell you what has happened and what we are doing to prevent it happening again.
  • Contact families when there is a problem or a concern.
  • Proactively work with other professionals to ensure best outcomes for your child.

We expect that families will:

  • Make sure the child is ready for school transport or bring them to school on time.
  • Make sure the child attends school every day school is open.
  • If their child is absent for any reason, provide an explanation to the school office on the same day your child is absent.
  • Contact the school if they feel there is a concern or a complaint.
  • Make an appointment to see members of school staff.
  • Let us know if your child has had an injury or has any bruising and what has happened to cause it. We are legally required to ask for this information if we have not been given an explanation, so giving us the details in advance may avoid us needing to call you during the school day. There may be some instances where we do need to call you for more information.
  • Speak directly to the nursing team or physiotherapists regarding any medical or physio issues with your child. These cannot be addressed by classroom staff.
  • Make sure their child has the correct medication and consent in school where this is needed.
  • Keep their child at home when they are actively unwell.
  • Attend the Parents’ Evenings and your child’s Annual Review Meetings.
  • Take an interest in the life of the school and their child’s work.

We will support your child to:

  • Feel safe and happy at school.
  • Communicate to the best of their ability.
  • Enjoy the company others and make friendships where possible.
  • Have opportunity to be involved in activities and events that they may enjoy.
  • Always have positive interactions with the adults who support them.
  • Ensure they leave Woodlands with as much independence and self-advocacy as possible.
